Cereso Prison’s Miss Captive Beauty 2010, Cecilia Juarez
Tuesday, March 9, 2010
Yesterday Cereso prison in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico held its annual Miss Belleza Cautiva, or Miss Captive Beauty pageant where Cecilia Juarez was crowned the winner. Cecilia is 22 and serving time for drug trafficking, but as the warden of the prison says, “There are no bad people here. Just people who did some bad things, but they’re learning their lesson.” Maybe the United States could learn a thing or two from how some third world countries treat their inmates. After all, where would the internet be without the Filipino inmate dance crew?
Here’s a story Mexican news network Milenio did on the pageant back in February:
Prison officials organized the contest as part of International Day of the Woman. Juarez, who’s only been in prison for two months on drug charges while she awaits sentencing, won the unanimous decision of the judges after competing against 14 other inmates who were selected by the judges to participate.
